Life Teen Program

The focus of a Youth Program is based on the fact that all are called to holiness, community and ministry.

  • Our program is grounded in the teachings of the Catholic Church and the guidelines of the Archdiocese.
  • We address the needs of youth where they are, not where we wish they were.
  • Activities or programs should always be centered on the youth, not the adults involved.
  • Life teen is a program for reaching youth, but it should not be seen as the totality of the ministry to youth in St. James parish.
  • Each program should involve a variety of activities and strategies.
  • Youth leadership should be sought and included in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of each activity in the program.

Life Teen Mass: The Life Teen Program is centered around the Eucharist and the hope that teens will stay active in their faith long after their high school years have passed, as their personal relationship with Christ and his church takes root and deepens with time and experience.

Life Teen Sessions: Creative sessions, Life Nights, held on Sundays bring to life our Catholic Faith and relevant issues for teens. All are encouraged to take an active role in our Life Nights. All sessions are rooted in Christian prayer, scripture and to the teachings and practice of the Catholic Faith. Each session is carefully planned in an effort to meet each teen where they are and encourage them to seek the will of God for their lives. Helping them to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ is our priority.

Retreats: Taking time out to go away on retreat can transform teen hearts. Our retreats give teens the opportunity to get away from everyday life and experience how faith, fellowship and walking with Jesus, can change their lives. Every retreat, is themed differently, and incorporates the unconditional love of Christ, found in the Sacraments. Please see the Faith Formation calendar for the important dates of our scheduled retreats.

Leadership: Teens are encouraged, trained and are active in leadership roles within the parish community as Lectors, Hospitality Ministries, assistants for the Vacation Bible School program, the Faith Formation program and the Church Nursery. Upperclassmen are chosen to participate in Christian Leadership programs as well.

Service and Outreach: Teens are involved in church and local communities. Through service and outreach activities teens experience the call to be disciples of Christ and to serve those in need.

Pizza and Prayer: On Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:00 St. James Life Teen offers a get-together for prayer and food. The evening begins with a meal, then a discussion of the week’s Bible readings and ends with social time. All teens 9th through 12th grade are encouraged to come.

Fellowship and Involvement in the Parish Our teens are encouraged to join us for movie nights, concerts and fun activities that promote friendship with each other and to participate in parish activities that draw us closer as the body of Christ.

The Core Team The Life Teen Program and all activities are planned & facilitated by the office of Youth Ministry and a team of volunteers, called the CORE team. The CORE team specializes in love of youth and encouraging them to draw close to Jesus Christ.

Life Teen Volunteers The office of Youth Ministry welcomes parents to be a part of the Life Teen program. The CORE team ministry requires an application and interview process. Parental involvement can also come as field trip drivers, bakers, donations for Life Nights and Retreats and prayers for our program. We welcome you!
